Eritrea and Ethiopia have a shared food culture, with a spicy taste and the use of enjera, a four-grain bread cooked on a griddle.
While traditionally eaten with hands, utensils are also provided at the table. Dahlak, an Eritrean restaurant in northern Italy, is named after the Dahlak archipelago located in the Red Sea. This beautiful cluster of over 360 islands and islets includes four inhabited ones - Dahlak Kebir, Dissei, Norah, and Dehel. As proud natives of this region, they began showcasing their traditional cuisine at various popular events in 1996. A decade later, in 2006, they opened the restaurant in Bergamo's historic Borgo Palazzo area as an ethnic gastronomy spot. Over the years, they have passionately worked towards making every meal an experience that celebrates both food and culture. Since February 2014, Dahlak has transformed into a full-fledged ethnic restaurant. They are grateful to all their friends and customers who have supported them on this journey and believed in their dream.
