About

Originally an ancient friary, the Taverna Rovita Restaurant has a long history in Maratea.

Located on Via Rovita, in one of the city's most charming alleys, it was first a tavern in the 18th century and is now a renowned restaurant. Situated just a few steps from Piazza Buraglia, the heart of the historic center of Maratea, this hidden gem was meticulously restored by an elderly master builder. It has been a beloved destination since 1981, when Francesco Gambardella had the brilliant idea to showcase traditional seafood and Lucanian cuisine at its finest. The intimate and distinctive atmosphere within these medieval alleys makes for a truly unique dining experience. In 2011, Mariastella Gambardella took over from her father as owner and continues to offer exceptional dishes that highlight both Lucanian and Mediterranean flavors with simplicity and delicacy. Every dish features carefully selected ingredients that reflect their love for their land and its culinary heritage.
