Must See Places

About

From its 84-meter height, the Torre dei Lamberti dominates the historic center of Verona and offers its climbers an unmatched and unmissable 360° view.

Construction of the tower began in 1172 and was struck by lightning in May 1403. However, restoration works did not commence until 1448 and lasted for 16 years. During this time, the tower underwent expansion, evident today through the use of different building materials such as marble. The addition of a large clock was completed in 1779. Inside the tower is a spiral staircase which can be seen in a photo taken by Paolo Monti in 1972. Additionally, there are two bells housed within the tower: one named Marangona that rings to signal fires, work times, and the hours of the day, and another called Rengo used to summon citizens to arms or assemble city councils.
