About
Ghost town on an Italian countryside.
For over 1,400 years Craco was a survivor of the black plague and the many bands of marauders who pillaged during the volatile medieval period. Its unique position atop a 400 meter cliff allowed for a wide, defensible view should any barbarian hordes come too close for comfort. It wasn't until 1991 that Mother Nature finally succeeded in forcing out the remaining residents via landslide. Truly incredible considering how long it managed to stay standing!
