About
This bronze ear was installed to announce visitors' arrival before there were doorbells.
Situated away from the hustle and bustle of Milan, in the historically significant Zone of Silence neighborhood, stands the Casa Sola-Busca. Also known as 'Ca ‘de l’Oreggia', or House of the Ear, it is notable for its impressive bronze ear jutting out next to the doorway. Classically designed, this building was crafted in 1930 by master sculptor Adolfo Wildt and maestros Lucio Fontana and Luigi Brogginiin. As a unique addition, they installed an intercom enabling visitors to announce their arrival with shouts into the ear itself. The area surrounding Casa Sola-Busca is filled with many buildings that reflect the transition between Middle Ages architecture and modernist design.
