About
A winding road through an Italian canyon may be the world's most scenic drive.
The Strada della Forra, also known as the Street of the Gorge and SP38, is a spectacular mountain road that winds around Lake Garda. Formed by the river Brasa, it cuts through a ravine and climbs steep hills up to Tremosine. It has a rich history; when it was completed in 1913, it was labelled ‘the most beautiful road in the world’ by Frankfurter Zeitung and Winston Churchill even termed it ‘the eighth wonder of the world’! Such is its stunning beauty that nowadays it serves as a popular location for films shoots and car commercials. James Bond fans may recognize this twisting road from Quantum of Solace where 007 races along cliff faces with villains pursuing him and a hostage in his Aston Martin.
