About
Where the gondolas of Venice are repaired.
It is impossible to imagine Venice without its long, slender, black gondolas, and the artisans at the Squero di San Trovaso are among those in charge of ensuring this doesn't happen. One of the oldest and only three currently in use in the city is the squero, a traditional boatyard. More than 10,000 Venetian ships were cruising the city's waters when it first opened in the 17th century, serving as the main form of transportation. During this profitable time, the squero employed about 60 boat builders. Around 350 boats are available to create that magic, and today most of the boats are rented by visitors looking for the ideal romantic voyage.
