About

The Ossuary Maggiore of Milan was built in 1210 to collect bones from the hospital.

The hospital was built in 1145 near the Santo Stefano Maggiore Church in Milan. As the graveyard filled with bodies from the new hospital, it was soon insufficient. The bones from the hospital were collected in a small chamber built in 1210, and another church was built near it in 1269.
