About
The Grand Tour artists also chose one of Rome's most picturesque and original bridges.
This beautiful pedestrian-only Roman bridge spans over 190 feet (60 meters) above the Aniene river and remains largely untouched since the Middle Ages. It is a beautiful reminder of an era long gone and inspired scores of Grand Tour artists who depicted the bridge in sketches, paintings, and illustrations. Nowadays, despite being not far from the modern districts of Nomentano and Monte Sacro, the bridge retains some of its rural tranquillity.
