About
It is the oldest Roman-made bridge in the city still in its original condition.
Pons Fabricius spans the Tiber river is Rome, connecting the eastern shore of Tiber Island and the mainland. Unlike its counterpart Pons Cestius to the west, it sits on a small island. The bridge was built by Lucius Fabricius, a curator of roads in the city, in 62 BC, thus receiving his name. It comprises tuff construction spliced with brick and travertine elements held up by two arches on top of a central pillar.
