About

the site of a famous medieval knight's slaying.

In 1501, Cesare Borgia ruled Imola and one of his knights, Guidarello Guidarelli, loaned Virgilio Romano a beautiful shirt embroidered with gold to wear at a masquerade carnival party. But when Romano refused to return the shirt, a duel ensued. The battle began in Palazzo Sassatelli, now Palazzo Monsignani, where Romano is said to have mortally wounded the beautiful knight in the fight.
