About
Vast system of air raid tunnels beneath the capital of Lombardy.
In the last few decades, many of these tunnels have been explored and excavated. Just below the streets and a few layers of concrete, lies an immense world of tunnels and reinforced chambers created to protect the city from allied bombings during World War II. Some of the tubes are located directly beneath public schools and other contemporary structures, where the air-raid shelters' existence has long been a mystery. Researchers have been able to learn more about World War II because to the find, which also unlocked a time capsule of underground life during Milan's nighttime bombings.
