About
The Sabine people considered this lake to be sacred and built a shrine on a floating island there.
The Lake of Cutilia, also known as the Paterno Lake was sacred to the Sabine people. Roman historians described a floating island with a temple dedicated to the oracular cult of Vacuna, a fertility goddess who protected the waters. Later, the Romans exploited the lake, particularly Vespasian and Titus, who were both born in the area.
