About
The renowned Juliet's House in Verona is a medieval palace that has been a beloved destination for lovers all over the world.
The building, located on the charming Via Cappello near Piazza Erbe, has undergone many restorations and renovations throughout its long history, as it previously belonged to the Dal Cappello family since the 13th century. The family's name can be seen on the street sign and their emblem is proudly displayed on the internal courtyard's keystone. In 1907, the Verona City Council acquired part of this medieval complex due to its association with Shakespeare's tragic love story between Juliet Capulet and Romeo Montecchi. The famous balcony was created from marble fragments from the 14th century, which were originally housed in the Castelvecchio Museum before being repurposed according to architectural trends of that time. The striking Gothic-style portal, three-lobed windows, balustrade connecting different parts of the house, and iconic balcony are all features of this beautifully restored mansion designed by Antonio Avena in the early 20th century. Visitors can also admire a bronze statue of Juliet by Nereo Costantini in the courtyard. Interestingly enough, Dante mentions both families - Montecchi.
