About
This modest mausoleum in Ravenna houses the remains of Italian poet Dante Alighieri, which hasn't exactly made his city of Florence too happy.
A tomb in Ravenna holds the actual bones of the great poet Dante Alighieri, much to the dismay of jealous Florentines. That fancy “tomb” in Florence? Without a body, it’s just a memorial. In 1321, Dante died in Ravenna, 90 miles away from his hometown. In addition, his works often included thinly veiled references to powerful people in the time, so he was buried in Ravenna after his death.
