About
Florence's famous Boboli gardens are home to a large grotto built in the 16th century.
Buontalenti roughly translates to 'large grotto', which is regional slang for the titular grotto in Florence's Boboli Gardens. The structure was created by Bernardo Buontalenti, an architect commissioned by Francesco I de' Medici around 1583-1593, to complete an unfinished nursery garden project designed by Vasari. Tourists visiting this grotto can enjoy much more than a cave experience.
