The rediscovery of Akragas began towards the end of the 18th century, when European travellers first arrived in Sicily. They were amazed by the vast and unexpected artistic and archaeological treasures that lay hidden there.

Within its boundaries, one can find temples dedicated to various gods, as well as a necropolis area and extra-moenia sanctuaries.
