About

The rediscovery of Akragas began towards the end of the 18th century, when European travellers first arrived in Sicily. They were amazed by the vast and unexpected artistic and archaeological treasures that lay hidden there.

Amongst the enchanting valley with its blooming almond trees, stands a monumental ensemble of Hellenic architecture - undoubtedly the most impressive in all of Sicily. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a unique blend of man-made cultural wonders and natural beauty. The Valley dei Templi - also known as the Valley of Temples - is the most significant reminder of ancient classical culture on this island. Within its boundaries, one can find temples dedicated to various gods, as well as a necropolis area and extra-moenia sanctuaries.
