About
A chance encounter between a local student and Keith Haring led to the creation of one of the largest murals in Europe.
On vacation in New York City in 1989, anthropology student Piergio Castellani met Keith Haring. They hatched the idea of a mural on Pisa church walls when Haring invited Castellani to his studio. Haring usually finished murals in a day, but this one took four days, thanks to students and a local paint company that provided free materials. It was one of the last public works he created before passing away from AIDS in 1990.
