About
A thousand-year-old hermitage's ruins are hidden away amid Albano Lake's sloping woodlands.
Among the many archaeological, historical, and natural wonders hidden on the steep slopes of Italy's volcanic Albano Lake is a nearly inaccessible hermitage: the Romitorio di Sant'Angelo in Lacu. On the Castelli Romani hiking maps, the trail to the site is steep and rocky, making the journey difficult. A small canyon is located above the site opposite Castel Gandolfo, below the monastery of Palazzolo.
