About
An apt tribute to the head of the Apollo program, crossing this suspension bridge is like walking through the sky.
A system of suspension bridges hangs between two Apennine peaks in Basilicata, the longest and bravest being Ponte alla Luna, or Bridge to the Moon. Spanning almost 1,000 feet with a drop of nearly 400 feet into the creek below, it takes at least half an hour to cross. Looking down from its steel steps will take your breath away - only the trees far below can be seen through the gap. But don't let any brief bouts of fear discourage you; those who complete the journey are rewarded with a glass platform boasting panoramic views of the majestic scenery and Sasso di Castalda's historic village.
