About
Mt. Etna, the world's most active stratovolcano erupts.
Mount Etna is located on the east coast of Sicily near Messina and Catania. It has been active for 500,000 years and covers about 450 square miles of land. Also, it's the tallest active volcano in Europe, and visitors can view its pocked summit craters, lava flows that have destroyed houses, and towering cinder cones. Although the volcano is raging, there are plants and animals living beneath it.
