About
Italian soldiers are commemorated by an ancient Egyptian obelisk.
A monument in Rome dedicated to the fallen Italian soldiers of the Battle of Dogali is the Monument to the Fallen of Dogali (Monumento ai Caduti di Dogali). As part of the Italian colonial expansion in East Africa, this battle took place in 1887 between the Italians and Ethiopia in modern-day Eritrea. It was a humiliating defeat for Italy, which lost about 500 soldiers.
