About
Locally referred to as Lario, Lake Como is a glacially formed body of water located in Lombardy, Italy.
With an area spanning 146 square kilometres (56 sq mi), it ranks third among Italy's largest lakes, following Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore. It measures a depth of over 400 metres (1,300 ft), making it the fifth deepest lake in Europe and the deepest one outside Norway. Its unique "Y" shape is one of its defining features. Ever since Roman times, Lake Como has been a sought-after destination for aristocrats and affluent individuals, drawing in many tourists with its wealth of artistic and cultural treasures. The lake is home to numerous villas and palaces, including Villa Olmo, Villa Serbelloni, and Villa Carlotta. Many renowned figures, such as George Clooney, Madonna, and Donatella Versace, have owned properties along its shores. In 2014, The Huffington Post declared it the most stunning lake globally due to its delightful microclimate and exquisite environment embellished with luxurious villas and charming villages.
