About

An ancient church ruins hidden deep in a botanical garden.

What once was a small agricultural town established during the Roman Empire now stands as an alluring English garden in rural Italy. It has a rich legacy, originally belonging to Pope Pasquale II in the 12th century and then passed on to the Frangipane and Colonna families in 1293. The beauty you now witness dates back to 1921, when Gelasio Caetani and his mother Ada Wilbraham planted their first seeds in its soil after already having founded another botanical garden in Fogliano. They also frequently brought back various species from their different travels worldwide. Its special microclimate, due to being under the influence of the river Ninfa, low-lying fog and frequent rain showers is humid yet consistent.
