About
This hermitage can only be accessed by crawling under a ledge suspended above an overhang.
San Giovanni all’Orfento, an iconic hermitage located in a cliff above the wild and protected Orfento Valley, is one of the nature reserves within the Majella National Park in Abruzzo. Claimed to have retired here between 1284 and 1293 by Pope Celestine V, Peter of Morrone is said to have sought solitude in an inaccessible place with his most loyal followers.
