About
Volterra's abandoned psychiatric hospital cemetery.
The Ospedale Psichiatrico di Volterra in the historic Italian town of Volterra once housed as many as 6,000 patients. The hospital closed in the 1970s, but the cemetery and abandoned buildings remain. The hospital ruins are also famous for the haunting mural painted by inmate Oreste Fernando Nannetti, partially destroyed by decades of exposure to the elements.
