About
Moasca is famous for it's huge medieval castle that rises on the top of the hill.
Rebuilt in 1351, the castle stood atop the remains of an earlier fortress. Compared to the original structure, the rebuilding guaranteed a higher standard of comfort for the occupants. The wine cellar, which connected to lengthy tunnels used by prisoners, was the most fascinating feature of the castle. It was still feasible to live in the castle in the beginning of the 20th century, but after World War II, it was abandoned, leading to its inevitable ruin.
After renovations started in 1999, the castle now houses a classy restaurant that is open mostly during the summer.
