About

In this chapel, Jesus becomes vines.

This small chapel, belonging to a private individual, is surprisingly small - just over nine meters in length and four meters in wide. It was already in existence in the 15th century and is located on a major artery connecting Bergamo to the rest of Europe. To appreciate the themes in the fresco, it is necessary to contextualize them in historical terms. The 16th century was characterized by the turmoil caused by the publication of Luther's Ninety-five Theses. Protestant forces were pouring in from the north and the areas along these routes witnessed a hitherto unknown phenomenon: conversions.
