About
This ancient Italian chapel hangs in the middle of a precipitous cliff face.
The Santuario Madonna della Corona is situated on Mount Baldo with its majestic vertical rock, rising up a remarkable 2,000 feet above sea level. This ancient edifice can only be reached via a precarious narrow walkway from below or a street from the top. The secluded hermitage used to be a private retreat for holy figures who sought a tranquil silence in which to meditate and contemplate the essence of God. Built in 1530, it soon became a popular pilgrimage site, frequented by those looking for spiritual nourishment, and continued to grow with later restorations that included the construction of an additional church atop the original structure.
