A charming place of rare beauty, the Cavillon cave in the Balzi Rossi is also a major prehistoric site in Europe, where Cro-Magnon burials date to about 24,000 B.C.E. Located near Menton and Ventimiglia, the caves are found at the base of a cliff which faces the Roman old Via Iulia Augusta on the Mediterranean shore at the French-Italian border. Visitors can visit the caves and museum.
