Must See Places

About

The books are chained in this gorgeous medieval library.

There is still a chained library in Cesena, the Biblioteca Malatestiana, which was built in 1454 and opened by the then Lord of Cesena, Malatesta Novello. The interior has remained remarkably unchanged. There are still 58 reading lecterns in the church-like space, which are chained in place with wood shelves that contain old texts.
