About
On Italy's "Coast of the Gods," an ancient chapel with fairytale-like proportions is perched atop a rocky cliff.
Santa Maria dell'Isola, a 4th century monastery, is perched high on a rocky promontory on the spectacular Tyrrhenian Sea coast, often known as the "Coast of the Gods," and is only reachable by ascending a winding flight of steps carved directly into the cliffside. Since Sextus Pompey overthrew Emperor Octavius, people have lived in Tropea for at least 2,000 years. Legend has it that Hercules himself founded it.
