About
On this picture-perfect island, there are abandoned ruins of a failed resort.
The tiny Dino Island, which was originally connected to the mainland until erosion ate away the land bridge, is located just off the shore at Praia a Mare in the Southern Italian province of Calabria. In the midst of the lush vegetation, a meager collection of structures exists, offering a glimpse into one period of the island's extensive human history. Dino Island was sold to a private organization in the 1950s with the intention of developing the island as a tourist destination. On the little island, there were plans to build a five-star resort, but these plans fell through, and the island was abandoned. This once-famous project is now little more than a few structures that resemble Trulli and an abandoned restaurant.
