Ezzelino III da Romano, a notorious Italian tyrant known for his immense cruelty, ruled this medieval castle in Bassano del Grappa. In the Middle Ages, Romano was exiled from the church for his conflicts with the pope. In order to overthrow his reign, the church even launched a crusade.
