About
Explosives are explored in a dynamite factory turned museum.
Alfred Nobel set up a factory in the late 1800s to produce explosives. Until the 1960s it was still in operation, and the site has since been recreated to give visitors an insight into what it was like to work in a wartime Italian explosives factory. Bygone days are brought back to life through photographs, sound effects, tools, videos and explanatory panels which collectively explore various aspects such as production of explosives and associated risks from blatant danger to less obvious but equally troubling health issues. Furthermore, the Italian background on this subject is discussed together with the story of the factory’s eventual destruction by American Allies in 1945. Surprisingly quiet for a tourist attraction, those that do take their time here find no guides accompanying them around the expansive grounds.
