About
Under the famous Trevi district lies a forgotten "city of water."
The Trevi Fountain is a celebrated attraction for visitors to Rome. However, what many don't know is that beneath the area hides an archaeological site. Vicus Caprarius, often referred to as the "City of Water", dates back to the 1st century and was established due to the Great Fire of 64. It was later renovated in the 4th century into an upper-class house (domus). The site was uncovered by expansion work on the Cinema Trevi theatre during the late 1990s.
