About

A medieval tower with an iron cage dangling from it that used as an outdoor prison for criminals who were displayed as a deterrent.

By 1281, the tower was built by the Acerbi family for private use, then sold to the Bonacolsi family. In 1328, the Bonacolsi family were defeated by the Gonzagas, who took control of the city. The tower slowly decayed.
