About

A Roman park is home to an alchemist's "magic door."

Rome's Piazza Vittorio is home to a quite special "Magic Door", tucked away in the remains of an old villa. It was crafted by the Roman marquis Massimiliano Palombara, one of the members of "The Alchemists of Palazzo Riario" during the early 1600s. Unique symbols and inscriptions can be found across its surface, a portal into the mysterious world of alchemy and science. The group garnered support from Queen Regent Christina of Sweden - an esteemed fan of both fields whose court often saw visitors such as Rene Descartes and Athanasius Kircher, along with other admirers like Palombara. Despite its unassuming location, the door remains well-known to locals today.
