The Palazzo Vallemani is located in the historic part of Assisi near the Basilica of San Francesco.
The ancient residence, built in the 17th century, was first occupied by the noble Giacobetti and Vallemani families before becoming home to the Municipal Library, Higher Institutes, and Properziana Academy of Subasio. The Palace Art Gallery was founded at the end of the 19th century with a mission to preserve the city's art. On display are paintings dating from the 13th to 16th century, collected from various public buildings, roadside kiosks, city gates, brotherhoods, and hospitals. Notable works include a Majesty attributed to Giotto and a Banner by Niccolò di Liberatore known as Alunno. A multimedia room on the ground floor offers an overview of the city's evolution. Currently on view until December 31st is an exhibition called "Memory," which honors Assisi's efforts to save Jews during World War II.
