About

A secret room beneath the Medici Chapel is adorned with the doodles of a genius.

To escape the Pope's anger, Michelangelo took refuge in a secret room beneath the Medici Chapel at the Basilica di San Lorenzo. Groups of protestors were raging through Florence, so he had no choice but to hide away for three months armed only with charcoal. He filled the walls from floor to ceiling with his artwork that ranged from sketches of himself and Christ to possible reproductions of scenes from his famous Sistine Chapel fresco painted in 1512.
