About
An aircraft-themed restaurant has closed, leaving two planes abandoned.
Around 1,200 people inhabit the small community of Villamarzana, which lies an hour's drive southwest from Venice. Back in 2000, Gigi Stecca caused a stir when he opened up a restaurant just a few minutes away from the town center. Today, two derelict planes and a helicopter remain as testament to his ambitious yet ill-fated venture. Stecca dreamed of furnishing everyone with the chance to travel by air; prior to launching this project, he had worked for years overseeing retirement homes where he witnessed elderly Italians longing to experience being on board an aircraft whenever one flew past. Hence, his establishment was composed of two airliner models (a Douglas DC-6 and Tupolev TU-134A), plus a control tower and helicopter.
