About
A unique instance of a catholic church in an octagon.
Italian churches aren't lacking in beauty, but the Chiesa della Beata Vergine del Soccorso in Rovigo is unique because of its octagonal shape. Due to its unique architecture, it is a rare example of a church with eight sides. This cathedral was built in 1594, and it is believed the architect, Francesco Zamberlan, selected the octagonal shape to symbolize the number eight in Christianity.
