Well-known resort destination for centuries, Baia welcomed the wealthy and influential members of Roman hierarchy. Thanks to the presence of natural volcanic vents, this city had numerous thermal springs which were conducive to spas' construction. High ranking personages such as Nero, Cicero and Julius Caesar often visited there and some even built permanent residences.
