About
On the grounds of a Renaissance palace stands a stunning fountain depicting a mythological she-goat carved directly into the rock.
A monumental façade of the Papacqua fountain lies just past the Rennaissance-era Chigi-Albani Palace, where a series of fountain masks decorate the wall. There is an enormous statue of a goat-legged woman with three infants crawling up her body at the heart of this exuberant Mannerist-style fountain. It is believed that she represents the mythical she-goat Amalthea, who nurtured Zeus in a cave on a mountain in Crete in the mythical she-goat Amalthea in her cave.
