About

The striking memorial commemorates the thousands of Bolognese men and women who died fighting fascists during World War II.

The memorial to the fallen partisans of Bologna's World War II resistance movement can be seen on the east-facing wall of the Palazzo d'Accursio, just northwest of the Fountain of Neptune. As indicated at the top, the memorial was built shortly after liberation. Families of partisans killed in the square began posting pictures of the dead and leaving flowers and funerary offerings. (Partisans were both hanged and shot against the wall.)
