Must See Places

About

In 1991, the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art opened its doors in a restored fifteenth-century complex that was once a monastery.

Since then, it has attracted diverse audiences with its dynamic and multidisciplinary approach to contemporary art while staying true to its roots and heritage. With 1500 square metres of exhibition space, it offers a platform for both established and emerging international artists, as well as a range of events catered to different age groups. In 2018, an agreement with the municipality of Bergamo led to the expansion of GAMeC into the Sala delle Capriate within Palazzo della Ragione, creating a connection between two iconic squares in the Upper Town. Alongside its main exhibitions, GAMeC also offers educational workshops for children and regular adult programs such as artistic-experiential workshops and Happening: happy hour events on Sundays during the summer. Throughout its twenty-year presence in the area, GAMeC's Educational Services team has continuously worked towards making contemporary art accessible through various projects and activities.
