About
This small chapel survived both a severe mudslide and a flash flood.
After a ferocious rainstorm in October 2011, Vernazza's hillsides collapsed, causing mudslides and a flash flood that buried its Via Roma to a depth of 12 feet. Vernazza's tiny yet sturdy stone chapel, the Chapel of Santa Marta, withstood the flood. After the flood, the determined villagers of Vernazza cleaned up, cleared out, and restored their historic village.
