Must See Places

About

This historic path ascends the peak where the principal deity of the Latin League cult, Jupiter, was worshipped.

The Via Sacra ascends Monte Cavo's steep slopes and thick chestnut forests (3,084 feet, or 940 meters), taking you to the location of the ancient Jupiter-worshipping Latiaris cult. This amazing climb, which ranks among the most picturesque routes in the area, is both an archaeological and a spiritual experience. The journey from the Temple of Diana Nemorensis, by the neighboring Lake of Nemi, to the temple of the main deity of the Latin League was naturally continued by the road, which was reconstructed with basalt stones during the time of Tarquinius Priscus, the fifth king of Rome.
