About
The hydrochronometer in this garden was invented by a Dominican monk.
Two of these very rare water clocks are located in Rome, one at Palazzo Berardi, and the other at Rome's College of St Thomas. Father Giovan Battista Embriaco was a professor and inventor. After Embriaco's hydrochronometer was completed in 1867, it was submitted to the Paris Universal Exposition, where it was awarded several prizes.
