About
The theatre of Taormina, also known as the Teatro antico di Taormina, is a historic amphitheatre located in Sicily.
Originating in the third century BC, the original Hellenistic theatre was discovered to have been built on top of another ancient structure. During the Roman era, the theatre underwent reconstruction under the rule of either Hadrian or Trajan. In the third century AD, renovations were made which transformed the orchestra into an arena and removed the stage.
